Joanna Vissichelli is a New York based Multimedia Storyteller.

​

She currently serves as the Executive Editor of SUNY Old Westbury's student-run newspaper, the Catalyst, and has been part of the organization for two and a half years focusing on news stories and profiles. She is also a video production intern at the university's Media Innovation Center.

​

Vissichelli previously interned in SUNY Old Westbury's Communications & University Relations Office, where she created and managed content for the university's Instagram and Twitter pages.

​

Her journalistic work has been recognized by a number of organizations. She won six 2024 SUNY Old Westbury Media Arts Celebration Awards. She won "Best Creative TV Segment," "Best TV Episode," and "Best News Package for Reporter" in the television category. In print, she won "Best Opinion Piece" and "Best Feature Story." She won "Best News Segment" in radio.

 

Vissichelli won a 2023 Fair Media Council Folio Award for a collaborative audio project called, "What’s New In World Media?," produced for New Media Beat on OWWR, Old Westbury Web Radio in the "Best News Podcast" Category. Her article, "Mental Health Awareness at SUNY Old Westbury," (the Catalyst, 2022) was a nominee for the 2023 Fair Media Council Folio Awards and her article, "SUNY Old Westbury’s Loss of A True Home Court and Crowd" (the Catalyst, 2023) was nominated for the 2024 Press Club of Long Island Media Awards. 

 

Vissichelli will graduate with a B.A. in Media & Communications in Spring of 2024 with a 4.0 GPA. She was recognized for Academic Excellence and Outstanding Achievement in her department. She is a member of the Tau Sigma Honor Society and has consistently been on the Dean's List each year. She also holds a Microcredential in Fundamentals of Non-Fiction Video Production.
